Year-round fundraising

Light up
the rinks.

Two rinks, roughly 28,800 tiles, and every one of them takes a beating. The city owns the rinks, but keeping them skateable is on us. Gifts to HIHA keep the floor fast, the goals square and the lights on all year, not just at registration time.

Watch the rinks come alive

Every gift lights up more of the floor below. Rink 1 lights first, then Rink 2. When both are glowing, this year's goal is met. It resets each year: the tiles get replaced a section at a time, where the wear is worst. The board is drawn to scale: every square is one real tile, about 13 inches across.

Both rinks are lit. Goal met, thank you, Hendersonville! Every gift from here goes straight into the rinks.

Totals are kept by the HIHA treasurer and update within about a week of a gift.

Where it goes

Two outdoor rinks
eat through things.

Registration fees cover a season. This fund covers the rinks themselves, whatever they need most, whenever they need it.

Tiles

Stilmat sport tiles, about 13 inches square and roughly 14,400 to a rink. Pucks, wheels, sun and rain wear them down, and cracked or lifted tiles get replaced before a skater catches an edge. For perspective: the November 2024 order was 11,430 square feet of tiles, about a third of each rink on the side where the sun hits hardest. The tiles came to $33,064, plus $4,980 to clear customs: about $38,000.

Goals, nets and boards

Nets tear, goal frames bend, dasherboard panels and caps crack. Keeping two rinks square and safe is a year-round job.

Lights, fans and Zammy

Night games need lights, summer games need the fans, and Zammy, our ride-on floor scrubber, needs pads and parts to keep the tiles clean and fast.

Who decides: the board directs the fund to whatever the rinks need most. Ask the treasurer for the current list, or tell us if there's something specific you'd like your gift to cover.

Every tile counts.

Whether it's one tile or a whole rink, it all ends up under somebody's skates.
