Volunteers with whistles & whiteboards

Coaches &
referees.

Every game takes a volunteer behind the bench and stripes on the rink. Here's how to join the crew.

For coaches

Run a bench

Interested in coaching? Awesome. Coaches provide the instruction and training that develop players at every age level, and the league is always looking for volunteers to help kids learn this game.

Beyond player development, coaches manage team communications with players and families: schedules, rainout calls, and game-day details.

Requirements: AAU Double Goal or USA Hockey certification, AAU membership, and a Hendersonville Parks background check. Full-time head coaches get a registration discount for their own player.

"A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life." (John Wooden)

For referees

Wear the stripes

New refs train at preseason seminars. It's a great gig for older players and hockey-minded parents, and yes, it pays per game.

Ref reminders: if you can't make your game, notify the Director of Referees as early as possible through the contact form. Print your name on the scoresheet for every game you work.

No ties: 5-minute sudden-death OT, then a 3-shooter shootout, then one shooter a side. Players serving penalties are not eligible for the shootout.
